JAMS's March-April 2012

One of the things I enjoying doing the most each month is attending regular meeting of the JAMs Group. Now, if that isn't familiar to you, it stands for Judy's Altered Minds. Judy is Judy Gula; owner and chief altered mind at Artistic Artifacts on Eisenhour on the edge of Old Town Alexandria. Judy is a fiber and mixed media artist. And her shop (located inside the ELECTRODYN) building sells all kinds of goodies and kewl stuff for mixed media arts and people who want to create altered art. Once a month we...meaning any one who wants to attend......we meet at the store on a Sunday afternoon to have fun. Sometimes Judy demonstrates materials from her store. Other times we/participants take turns doing demos which usually means everyone gets into the act. And we always try to do a little show and tell.

This past March our topic was collage. Everyone is working on an altered book. Our fearless leader in March was Linda Morgan and our April leader was Laura Hunt. Each meeting we try different techniques and, if we feel like it, we use the technique to make at least one page of our altered book. I say "if we feel like it", because all activities are options. If you would like to join the fun, let me know or contact Judy or Sharon at Artistic Artifacts for dates and a few more details.

In the mean time, here are a few pictures from the March session were we did collage.

And here are a few pictures from the April session where we did alcohol ink.
We also had show and tell. Below is Margie with a piece she is working on from a class at G Street. And to the right is Chris with a piece she completed with felting after a class she took with Margo Duke at Artistic Artifacts.
